Bemivo
BMR calculator
Your basal metabolic rate: the calories your body burns at complete rest. Mifflin-St Jeor by default, Harris-Benedict one tap away.
The formulas were derived with this variable. It is not an identity setting.
A screening number, not a diagnosis. Talk to a doctor about anything that worries you.
About this number
Two formulas estimate it from sex, age, weight and height:
Mifflin-St JeorCurrent
Published in 1990 from measurements of 498 healthy adults. A 2005 review of the common equations found it the most likely to land within 10 percent of measured resting energy, so it is the default.
Harris-Benedict
From 1918; the version here is the 1984 revision. It is here because people look for it by name.
BMR= 10×Weight+ 6.25×Height− 5×Age+ 5
Weight in kilograms, height in centimetres, age in years. Other units are converted first.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR is what your body burns at complete rest. TDEE adds everything you do in a day, so it is BMR times an activity factor, from 1.2 for a desk job to 1.9 for hard physical work.
Is BMR the same as maintenance calories?
No. Maintenance calories are your TDEE, which adds everything you do in a day on top of your BMR. Eating only your BMR would put you below maintenance every day.
Mifflin-St Jeor or Harris-Benedict?
Mifflin-St Jeor is the more accurate of the two for people today. Harris-Benedict is here because many people know it by name and want to compare.
How accurate is a BMR calculator?
It is an estimate from your weight, height, age and sex, not a measurement. A 2005 review found Mifflin-St Jeor the most likely of the common equations to land within 10 percent of measured resting energy.
What is a normal BMR?
There is no single normal number, because BMR depends on your weight, height, age and sex. In the Mifflin-St Jeor equation it rises with weight and height and falls by 5 calories a day for every year of age.
